PRIMED FOR DEATH

I have always enjoyed telling stories. During my school years, I used to write short stories and novels, and analyse films at my school’s mini-media club. I hoped to become a writer someday, perhaps in ten or fifteen years from then, to share the incredible and inspiring journeys of my family, community, and homeland Tigray during the 1970s – 1990s’ struggle. It turned out that the universe had other plans and I didn’t have to wait nearly as long to tell our stories.
Here I am now, surviving a genocide and living to chronicle my experience as it is. I never imagined that I would experience such horrors. And I can’t help but feel that fate kept me here for a reason.
